| Network Maintenance: Saturday, November 14, 2009 at 04:00-06:00 UTC/GMT |
[11 Nov 2009|02:00pm] |
On Saturday the 14th at 4AM UTC/GMT we will be upgrading the operating system of our network load balancers to a newer version, one that will allow us to use both CPUs! Nifty, because multiprocessing is nice.
Since we have 2 load balancers, the plan is to upgrade 1 at a time, and there really should be very little impact to our website. Hopefully you won't notice a thing and I'll get to go back to the hotel and watch some wonderful late night infomercials.
We've got a lot of exciting projects coming up for 2010 and we're hoping that we'll be able to deliver them all to you, that you will find it useful/cool/lovely and then you will use the site even more. Behind-the-scenes work like this will give us the capacity to handle the anticipated traffic, so expect a few more maintenance windows especially in the beginning of next year as we've got some neat ideas to improve performance around here! We had the recent 30-45 minute outage yesterday due to one of our logging databases filling up disk space -- not so great design coupled with my human error in handling the initial problem -- and it looks like we're going to finally have some resources to eliminate stuff like that. I can't wait!
As usual, I will be updating status.livejournal.org before and after, just in case you are not able to reach our main website during the work.

This is so exciting for me since I'm doing this for the first time. Thank YOU for writing my story, and I hope this letter helps you put things into perspective while writing the story! :D! That said, if you already know what you want, go crazy! Sometimes I want something one way, and when it turns out another way, I find out it to be so much better.

| well I'm sure that I could be a movie star If I could get out of this place |

So my ballet dress came on Monday. I might have a new addiction: internet shopping!!!!! I squeal when I get free shipping or a promotion code. There is something wrong with me I swear. But anyways, the dress is really beautiful and it fits like a glove. I want to wear it when I go see Phantom of the Opera but I'm running out of money :( It sucks because Phantom of the Opera is coming around January. Maybe I'll beg my parents to buy tickets for me as a birthday present :)
Took my psychology exam today. I got a 95. I was freaking out for nothing. I'm really happy with my grade (who wouldn't?!). Finally all of my studying paid off! Gonna have to study for my final if I want to get a good grade in class. I got a B on the first exam, C on the second, A on the third. :/ Not so sure extra credit is going to save my grade. We'll see.
I walked out of the Visual Arts building after my exam. One, it was super dark. (I really need to start taking self defense class). Two, there was a bomb threat at school. Yeah they went all out: Cops on walkie talkies, yellow tape, flashing lights. According to the news they said they closed down Classroom Building I, Parking Garage H and A. But that's not entirely true, my car was parked in garage A and I just went on home. lol Oh well.
As of right now, I am sitting in my room listening to Billy Joel's Piano Man. That song makes me smile and cry at the same time.
But yeah I'm happy. Happy that I don't have school tomorrow, happy that I passed my exam, and happy because I'm going to see a movie with Drew!
YAY!

| LiveJournal Major Notes: Spam counter-attack, RSS feeds again, CSI Deadly Intent contest |
[05 Nov 2009|01:15pm] |

The empire strikes backIn recent weeks, we've taken huge steps towards blocking spam accounts on LiveJournal. In fact, we've suspended as many as 30,000 accounts in a single day! We've implemented several pre-emptive measures to prevent the creation of spam accounts, and we've honed our detection of suspicious content. Spam bots are a crafty lot, so we'll continue to refine our tactics and keep up the good fight to keep you safe from spam attacks on LiveJournal.
RSS feeds againIf you're addicted to , icanhaschzbrgr, or other syndicated feeds, we're pleased to report that we've resolved the update error that was mucking up your RSS feeds. While content was being pulled correctly, it wasn't being posted to the feeds themselves. Late last week, we finally nailed down what we hope was the root problem, so content should post properly. We thank you for your patience.

| remember remember the fifth of november |
[05 Nov 2009|09:39am] |
Film class today (film noir!). Men Who Stare at Goats Friday. Going to go see it with Drew Saturday. Muslim speaker Monday. Psychology exam Tuesday. Spring Class enrollment Tuesday. My "ballet" dress arrives Tuesday. Humanities essay due Wednesday. No I'm wrong Veteran's Day no school Wednesday. So I guess I won't be falling apart on Thursday then.
I've been busy sort of so I haven't updated since...*looks at past entry* October 11th. What have I done since then?
I went to go see Astro Boy (cute movie) with Drew. Did so well on my humanities exam that I probably won't have to study for the next one. Lost two pounds because I'm always running to class (oversleeping sucks and so is finding parking). Went to a comic book convention. Decided not to work at the bookstore because they're not hiring part time. Bought winter boots and regretted it because it's November and it's 80 degrees. Found new music to listen to. Wrote down ideas for a book (all of them are ridiculous). Almost got sick but didn't (vitamin c is good for you). Found a new place to buy sushi! Made plans for the summer (Canada or possibly California or both lol) even though it's only Fall.
Ugh gotta get ready to go to astronomy class. I'm so glad I'm getting my science classes out of the way.
Byeeeee! (I still love college surprisingly)

| im a loose bolt of a complete machine. |
[03 Nov 2009|08:09am] |
|
so what's new with me, you ask.
im convinced i'll be dead by the end of november, mid december if i get lucky. i have never been so stressed out in my entire life. school is terrible. this time last year, i was excited to get up in the morning to go to school and see people i enjoyed seeing everyday. unfortunately this year, i dont have that luxury. my favorite part of the day is being able to sleep, but there's a downside to even that, which is i wake up a thousand times more upset than i did before i fell asleep. going to school makes me ridiculously depressed. im being worked to the core and i shouldnt be.
for the next two weeks, i dont think im getting a break. and when i do, i'll use that time to study for the stuff that is taking up more of my free time. im being forced into things i'd rather not do and that's piling up ridiculously and making matters even worse.
i didnt think that at the beginning of this year, i'd break down. and if i did, i didnt think it would happen this fast. unfortunately, i did. i broke hard.
i stayed home today because i woke up feeling ridiculously sick and my head is aching so bad. i dont know if i should blame sinuses or stress. i think both. even tho i took a sick day, im still going to have to work and practice for my performance exam, which at this point, i really dont care if i pass or not. i want to eat so i can take something to make my head feel better, but im sick to my stomach because i just cant handle this anymore. so my stomach continues to hurt and my head is killing me. im tired because im afraid to sleep just cuz im afraid of my dreams. and i thought dreams were supposed to be pleasant. . .
so if i've been treating people bad lately, im sorry. but i cant handle people lately because i cant even handle my own situations. i just need to rant. i just want a break from it all.

yesterday was halloween ! i went as the lovely silk spectre from watchmen. i la la love my costume so much, i could easily wear it everyday. tho, i dont think people would enjoy seeing a superhero walking around all the time. but id totally do that just because i love it so much.

yeah so, i went trick or treating during the day with jack. melanie didnt go because she was "sick". bull. annnyyyyway, we got some candy and such then we came home. me and the family went to my godmother's party shortly after. that was pretty fun. but im still tired. boo.
today was already productive, and i've only been up for about two hours, which is lovely. i finished all of my homework for the weekend. so today i can just chill. i might do my hair. maybe bleach it underneath and redye the top red? maybe hints of black? hmm. i dont know. decisions, decisions ! but i know im not getting rid of the red. i love having red hair and once you get rid of it, it's a biiiiiitch to get back. i hate having to make decisions about my hair color.
